Nissan Patrol gets new 7-speed automatic, more power for 2018

The current-generation Nissan Patrol Royale has been in the market for quite some time now. For 2018 however, the venerable full-sized SUV gets a healthy power bump this year and is possibly the most potent vehicle Nissan Philippines offers, bar the GT-R.

Under the hood, 2018 Patrol Royale is fitted with a new VK56VD 5.6-liter, naturally-aspirated V8 engine, it gains direct injection and Variable Valve Event and Lift System. The result is an impressive 400 PS and a stump-pulling 560 Nm of torque. A significant bump from the old VK56DE which only put out 320 PS and 533 Nm.
It sends power to all four wheels via a permanent four-wheel drive system. Being a traditional SUV, the four-wheel-drive system has a 4-Low and a 4-High mode which defaults to Auto. Just as significant is the addition of the new seven-speed automatic transmission, replacing the old five-speed unit.

To distinguish the 2018 models from the pre-facelift variants, it pays to take a closer look at the front fascia. Immediately noticeable is the more angular bumper design with a solid, defined character line running across it. It is then complemented by a pair of new fog lights, which are larger than before. Also new is the grill, employing an 'egg-crate' look as opposed to the honeycomb design of last year's Patrol.
Other changes to the exterior are the new LED headlights with a distinct light signature. The tail lights get an updated look too, with bright red LED lighting. Plus, the 20-inch alloy wheels get a new, multi-spoke design. As for the rest of the vehicle, it carries over unchanged. To make the 5.1-meter long SUV that bit easier to maneuver, the 2018 Patrol Royale comes standard with an Around View Monitor, serving as an extra pair of eyes for the driver thanks to the additional cameras.

As for the cabin, there are some trim color changes, as well as an updated infotainment system. It now boasts an 8-inch touchscreen with the sound being channeled via a Bose premium audio system with a 13-speaker system. Both front seats get power adjustability with the driver's side coming with a memory function. Given its size, it comes as no surprise that it has seating for eight. Second-row passengers are treated to headrest-mounted display screens on each side.

Meet the forever young Micra from Nissan...

Nissan Micra is at it again. The Japanese car has been revamped with a clutch of novel facilities. The small hatchback still manages to stay updated even eight years after its launch in India.
We test-drive Nissan Micra, one of the best CVT automatic hatchbacks available in India.

The global car
Micra is a global car from Nissan. It is sold in almost all markets in the world. It is the hot-sellling model in Europe, Latin America and China. It is called March in its home market, Japan. Renault Pulse and Datsun Micra are just another names for the same car.
Nissan Micra is not just another small car. It has sizzled the roads since 1982. It comes in a variety of avatars, including convertible, coupe and rally sport. It comes with engines below 600 cc in Japan and engines with a capacity of more than 1,600 in several markets.

The novelty quotient
Nissan Micra has been around for a while but it takes pride in a design that stays forever young. The styling is refreshing from any angle. The first changes you notice in the new Micra are the new LED tail lamps and the R 15 diamond cut alloys.

Micra comes with the same features that are otherwise available only in the very expensive cars. The head lamp that has the ‘lead me to car’ and ‘follow me’ features has become automatic. They are switched on automatically after dark. Wipers are fitted with rain sensors. They start work at the first drop.

Elegant interiors
The interior finishing is in black. Seats are in black too. The piano black finish of the central console has become grander than in Sunny.
Orange cars carry the same colour in dashboards and door trims to gain a sporty look. The Sunny model stereo controls mounted on the steering wheel has been incorporated into the new Micra. It also comes with Push button start, two-din stereo, airbag, ABS and EBD.

CVT
Though Baleno and Jazz boast of the CVT automatic gearbox, only Micra has the most modern Xtronic CVT. If automatic gear transmission was looked down upon because of their slow response, Micra has solved the problem with hi-tech.

Driving a Micra, in simple terms, is a pleasure. The 1,200 cc 77 Bhp engine is calm and sturdy. They perform equally good on city roads and highways. Micra offers freedom from gear change without compromising on performance. The decreased turning radius at 4.56 metres and the light steering make the model all the more comfortable. The state-of-the-art suspension is made to pamper the passengers.

Cost effective
Interestingly, the automatic model excels the manual model in terms of fuel efficiency. Micra would easily cover 19.34 kilometres for a litre. You cannot find a better automatic model with this kind of fuel efficiency.

Nissan X-Trail 1.6 DIG-T 163 Tekna 2WD
THE Nissan X-Trail has long been one of my favourite 'soft roaders' with its boxy shape and rugged look offset by subtle styling cues to make it look less industrial.
The latest version has taken a bit of getting used to in terms of styling, but under the skin remains a highly capable motor, in both two and four wheel drive versions.
Nissan says the dramatic styling changes are as a result of listening to customers. As it is the best-selling crossover in the world, that would appear to make sense. Most are sold in America, butEurope accounts almost half a million cars.
With a five of five or seven seats, like most crossovers, the design combines robustness with more dynamic styling, with sharper creases and angles.
All models are well equipped with six airbags as standard, plus driver assistance systems including anti-lock brakes and stability control. Other standard equipment includes cruise control with speed limiter, Bluetooth connectivity, manual air-conditioning, electric folding/heated door mirrors and alloys.
The Tekna model features an opening panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, privacy glass, dual-zone automatic air-conditioning and roof rails and excellent parking assist technology gives gives an all round view while parking.
The exterior centrepiece is the wider ‘V-motion' grille, flanked with new headlamp clusters, with full LEDs on this model and ‘boomerang' daytime running light signature.
To the rear there is a redesigned bumper with improved parking sensors, while the rear lamp signature has been upgraded to become full LED.
The interior too is classy with so touch trim and feeling solid and well put together.
Dials and instrumentation are well laid out and easy to use, while the central seven-inch screen controls major functions like navigation and connectivity and the excellent eight-speaker BOSE sound system.
It features a new D-shaped multi-function steering wheel and heated front and second row seats on this model and leather knee pad on both sides of the redesigned centre console.
Head and legroom is good for front and second row occupants, but more cramped on the two seats in the third row.
The are really more suited for children, but could suffice for adults on shorter journeys.
Obviously there is a compromise on boot space with all seats in situ, but otherwise, with the rear pair folded away, stowage space is impressive and slightly roomier than before. A neat touch is the electrically operated boot lid can also be opened with a kick actions.
Capacity is up from 550 litres to 565 litres which can increase to 1,996 litres with all the rear seats folded.
On the road the 163PS petrol engine, mated to six-speed gearbox, has plenty of zip, hitting 60mph in under 10 seconds, but still delivery decent economy, a claimed 44mpg. Ride and handling is decent, what you would expect from a seven seater.
The suspension is set to deliver comfortable rather than sporty ride.
Other high end safety technology includes full range of airbags, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Recognition and Stand Still Assist.

We Reviewed The ALL-NEW NISSAN MICRA

The Nissan Micra’s massive transformation is set to impress…
The Nissan Micra, a popular model in South Africa’s hatchback segment, has undergone a massive transformation and last week we got to meet it in the metal. With a big leap forward in terms of design, we’re almost certain that the all-new Micra is going to make a big impression on those looking for a trendy, eye-catching and dynamic small car.

It goes without saying that it only takes one glance at the new Micra to notice its more modern and striking exterior design. Of course, this comes with a more expensive price tag than the old Micra, but if you consider how much bang is offered for your buck, it’s a strong contender in its class.

Expressive exterior design

The new Micra’s exterior is eye-catching to say the least. Bold character lines on its sculpted body give it an athletic and dynamic appearance and we love how this translates and adapts to trendy urban environments.

A sloping roofline, black B and C-pillars that create a floating roof effect, and discrete door handles in the C-pillar for rear passengers are just some of these ‘on trend’ features.
We also love the new Micra’s attractive rear styling, with striking new boomerang-shaped light clusters and a sculpted bumper below them. It sits high on its haunches with a sports-style rear roof spoiler and its carbon-look bumper that hides the car’s exhaust pipe.
The Visia model comes standard with 15-inch steel wheels while the Acenta adds 16-inch alloys and the Acenta Plus has 17-inch alloy wheels.

Six new Nissan Micra colours are available to choose from and our favourite has to be Nissan’s Marketing Launch Colour, Energy Orange, which complements its vibrant exterior beautifully!

Attention to detail in a ergonomically friendly cabin

Inside, the new Micra boasts comfortable and convenient features, as well as a a number of safety systems as standard, while interior design has been modernised to match its exterior.
For me, what really stands out is that everything you come into contact with in the cabin feels rather high-class. It’s also easy to get comfortable with a rake/reach adjustable steering-wheel as standard, coupled with adjustable seats to accommodate even the tallest of drivers. Back support in the front seats is a pleasure while Nissan paid special attention to decrease driver discomfort and fatigue on long journeys.

Even at the back, things remain rather cosy. I always like to spend time seated at the back of a car while on launches, not forgetting that many of our readers are in the market for family cars, or perhaps, a small car with lots of space in the rear for those clunky child seats. Let me say that I was able to easily catch some zzz’s in the new Micra’s roomy rear, thanks to its extended width which contributes to enhanced elbow space, shoulder and knee room.
Speaking of those looking for spacious small cars, those who enjoy weekends away with the kids will appreciate the new Micra’s competitive boot capacity of 300 litres, which can be expanded to 1004 litres when you fold the back seats down. There’s loads of additional storage space around the cabin for cups, keys and phones, and particularly worth noting is its large cubby hole, which I haven’t come across in a while – I actually managed to store my entire handbag in there!

Connectivity

Back in the front, a 7-inch touchscreen colour display on the Acenta and Acenta Plus is easy to use. Although the actual screen resolution and quality could do with a bit of an upgrade (it’s a bit grainy and dull), it provides the driver with access to features such as music, messages and maps through Apple CarPlay in addition to the MP3, USB and Bluetooth in the Visia model.

Safety for you and your family

Every new Nissan Micra comes with six airbags as standard, plus seat belt warnings and seat belt height adjustment for the front and rear. Isofix child seat anchor points in the rear are also standard as well as in the front passenger seat. Electronic safety systems include Vehicle Dynamic Control, Anti-locking Braking System, Electronic Brake force Distribution and Hill Start Assist.

Driving the new Nissan Micra

In and around Cape Town during the launch, we got plenty of driving time with the new Micra on various terrains in urban and rural environments. We drove the mid-range Acenta model, but all three models offer the same engine: the 66kW, 140 N.m. turbo-charged petrol engine.
As an all-rounder, the new Micra is pretty impressive to drive, especially in and around the city. In terms of suspension, it does a good job at dealing with bumps on the road, and when you’re on the highway the new Micra feels superbly stable – it’s as though you’re driving a much bigger car. It also benefits from a remarkably quiet cabin – there’s not much wind noise, which is great when you’re driving at high speeds in a very windy Cape Town! Limited noise levels in the cabin is all thanks to Nissan’s enhanced noise isolation technology that has been engineered into the car. Nissan notes that it’s designed to allow the driver to hear the engine response, but stay isolated from other noises, such as those generated by the tyres on the road.

Light brakes, easy steering and a smooth-shifting gearstick are a real pleasure when maneuvering in the city.

Conclusion

As far as transformations go, the new Micra has to be right up there, with the likes of the Ford Fiesta Volkswagen Polo to compete with. We think consumers will enjoy its trendy design and easy-to-handle driving dynamics.

Pricing

The new Nissan Micra is covered by Nissan Assured and comes with a 6-year/150,000km warranty; a 3-year/90,000km service plan; and 24/7 roadside assistance.

Nissan NP200 now even more LOADED

Nissan’s popular NP200 half-ton bakkie is now available in an exciting new limited edition. The locally-built and developed Nissan NP200 LOADED features a host of value-adding enhancements and special additions, and will be available in a production run of just 300 units.

Building on the NP200′s already impressive credentials, the new NP200 LOADED seeks to enhance its lifestyle and sports appeal with visual upgrades forming the essence of its unique list of accessories.
The Nissan NP200 is a dual-purpose vehicle, providing great versatility and practicality for business use with features including an 800 kg payload, a standard rubberised load box (1 250 litres) and a specially-designed tailgate which can handle 300 kg – a feature common in much larger pickups. The tractable petrol engine in the LOADED limited edition makes load-lugging easier, with peak torque (200 Nm) available relatively low down in the rev range (3 000 rpm), matched to short ratios for the first three gears.
Personal use is enhanced by the smarty-designed and spacious cabin, which features numerous storage spaces for a practical and comfortable lifestyle vehicle.
NP200 Product Manager at Nissan South Africa, Isa Giunta comments: “The Nissan NP200 features class-leading specification, high quality levels and a tough personality. Features like this have seen over 63,000 NP200′s sold to date, proving time and again it is South Africa’s favourite half-ton bakkie. The large cabin and smart design has also been highlighted by our customers, who find the NP200 to be a reliable and great value-for-money bakkie with low service and parts costs.
“In the IPSOS product quality research survey, the NP200 was awarded the Overall Satisfaction title for its segment, two years in a row. The revered Kinsey report also points out that parts pricing is a very strong NP200 trait. In addition, the NP200 builds on the legendary reliability and strong South African ties created by its forebear, the Nissan 1400 Bakkie.
“We are delighted with the Nissan NP200 LOADED limited edition, which rides proudly on existing NP200 qualities and offers an exciting and sporty new look, while maintaining a great price.”
LOADED with value-adding equipment

As the name suggests, the new NP200 LOADED has been fitted with smart extras while maintaining top-level value-for-money. Based on the 64 Kw/ 128 Nm Nissan NP200 1.6 with air conditioning and the safety package (ABS and dual airbags), the NP200 LOADED is available exclusively in white, and features special “LOADED” branding which incorporates silver and red accents in the decals, carpets and seats.
LOADED-specific equipment inside includes full leather upholstery, a front-loading CD/MP3/WMA/radio/USB/aux and Bluetooth-enabled audio system, special black carpets and remote central locking. On the outside, stainless steel nudge- and sports bars, black roof rails, a black tonneau cover and specially-designed Nissan-Concept alloy wheels complete the LOADED look.
All accessories have been specifically developed and approved for the NP200 LOADED and do not affect the vehicle’s standard and class-leasing 6-year/ 150 000 km warranty. Totalling a value-add of 29%, the extras fitted to the Nissan NP200 LOADED represent exceptional value and unique appeal,  which still makes the NP200 LOADED a class-leading value proposition.

The refreshed Nissan Navara and its prices are here

The refreshed Nissan Navara is finally out of the bag and South Africa is loving it!

The Japanese workhorse was revealed late last month alongside the GT-R Nismo and a bunch of other new additions to the carmaker's lineup, but because of an embargo we've only been permitted to publish after a specified date.

Frankly, there's not exactly much to go by if we're basing things on photos alone. There's a bit more chrome up front, as well as a new grille. But other than that, there's nothing really striking in terms of aesthetic changes. The inside boasts similar design, tech etc as the previous Navara.

You guys ought to wait a little while before making any judgments, at least until we get a proper test drive.

What do you think of the refreshed Nissan Navara for sale? If you like the new Navara, but you’re looking for a cheaper alternative - have a look at the used Navara for sale at Group 1 Nissan.
